Volunteer at The Harris

Are you over 16? Are you looking to gain skills and experience in the arts sector?

Do you want to get involved in the community? It sounds like you’d be a great Harris Volunteer.

Our voluntary roles are varied, from a one off to longer term roles. We usually have a range of things to do during the year – some periods are busier than others. You could:

  • Help run family-friendly activities and events at The Harris or out in the local community.
  • Help run regular workshops and projects for adults out in the local community – our workshops and projects are always creative and try to connect the community to The Harris.
  • Join small teams that work with specific staff on specific parts of Harris’ collection—for example, the volunteer team known as the Fine Art “Champs”.
  • Be part of small teams that advise staff on our public programme – for example, how we market our offer to people who think the Harris isn’t for them.

Whatever your age or abilities, you can get involved with us. We are looking to diversify our volunteers to better reflect our local population. Your age, ethnicity, sexuality, socio-economic status, and disability is not a barrier to being a Harris volunteer.

Hear from our Volunteers

Volunteering at the Harris is a great way to make friends, develop new skills and give something back to the community. I really enjoy it!” Charlotte

“Volunteering for the Harris allows me to be involved with our local community in a spiritual way. Being in connection with the general Preston public gives me a sense of security both socially and economically by sharing my thoughts and views. It helps me to be involved.” Raj
