Harris Collection Items
Let’s take a look at some of the items in our collection…
We have many scent bottles in our collection including the following four:
We also have toilet water bottles in our collection like this one here:
We also have fashion plates in our collection including this 1816 fashion plate, printed by Dean & Munday Publishers, offering a fascinating glimpse into historical style.
We have women’s accessories in our collection including this charming hand painted fan, featuring pastoral scenes, which dates to c.1775 and is likely from France. Fans were believed to have their own language of flirtation, and eighteenth century women were described as being armed with a fan in the same way men were armed with a sword!
We also have men’s fashion in our collection, including this tie which was sold at Carley’s Men’s shop in the 1970’s, from the brand Jacques Fath.
We can’t forget that we also have women’s shoes in our collection including these Oyster court shoes from the 1970’s/1980’s. The original box is marked ‘Coronation Ladies shoes’ and fit a size 6.
Harris Your Place
Harris Your Place is a £16 million project set to restore and reimagine the Harris for 21st-century audiences as a cultural learning space. The aim of this project is to protect the building and the architecture for future generations whilst enhancing accessibility options and positioning the Harris as a community hub for Preston and Lancashire.
The capital project is more than simply preserving this much-loved building; Harris wants to ensure that it remains a vibrant heart of the community. A place where people want to spend their time.
