Harris Your Place Q&A Series: Nathan, Apprentice Joiner
A number of individuals and companies are responsible for the renovations currently taking place as part of the Harris Your Place project. This Q&A series sees us chat with those responsible about their involvement, and what their role is throughout the renovation project.
Tell us a little more about your ties to Preston.
Well, we live pretty local, and my dad has done a lot of previous work in and around Preston. He worked on Preston Markets and did all the boarding there, and he’s done a few jobs for Conlon Construction too.
Tell us a little more about your role within the project.
We’re currently working at the Harris Museum. At the moment, we’re putting all the doors on, and then we’re moving onto the oak boarding in the annex. We’re also finishing off the covers for all the piping and electrics.
Tell us a little more about what you like best about this project.
I’ve enjoyed adding the skirting boards and putting the doors on, as once they’re on, everything else starts to come together. The building is looking really good!
Tell us a little more about how you got into your career path.
My dad is a joiner, but I went to college and started my A-Levels first. I realised that it wasn’t for me, so in the summer of that year I worked alongside my dad and I really enjoyed what I was doing. I decided I was going to start getting all the relevant qualifications I needed to see where it takes me, and here I am!
Harris Your Place
Harris Your Place is a £16 million project set to restore and reimagine the Harris for 21st-century audiences as a cultural learning space. The aim of this project is to protect the building and the architecture for future generations whilst enhancing accessibility options and positioning the Harris as a community hub for Preston and Lancashire.
The capital project is more than simply preserving this much-loved building; Harris wants to ensure that it remains a vibrant heart of the community. A place where people want to spend their time.
