Chinese New Year Celebration

Featuring a lion dance, traditional Chinese dance performances, an impressive Chinese Gongfu demonstration by a national champion, and a face/mask changing act.

There will be four parallel sessions of traditional craft workshops, two of which are led by masters of intangible cultural heritage invited from China, including:

  1. Woodblock Printing: This session is suitable for all ages and includes an explanation of each Chinese motif. You will learn the traditional method of creating Chinese New Year prints, with the opportunity to take your print home and display on your door.
  2. Embroidery: Designed for participants aged 13+, this workshop will focus on embroidery techniques. Both sessions will showcase the masters’ artwork and include demonstrations with English translations.
  3. Face Mask Painting: A family-friendly session where you can paint your own masks to take home.
  4. Chinese Lantern Making: Another family-friendly workshop where you can create your own lanterns to take home.

Audiences can choose which session to join or experience each one in turn.

Our Chinese New Year Celebration activities have been programmed by the Confucius Institute at the University of Lancashire.
