Enjoy an Easter jam-packed with exciting family-friendly activities at The Harris. From fantastical clay pets and Lego coding to object handling experiences and even a visit from the Lancashire Mobile Music Vehicle, there is something for all ages.

 


 

Springtime Crafts

Monday, 30 March | 10.30am & 1.30pm 

Join artist Sarah Hicks for a hands-on Easter craft workshop full of colour and creativity. Design and assemble your own spring mobile with twigs and collage and then bring the fun to life and create an inflatable chicken puppet you can play with over the Easter holidays.  Perfect for young makers – all materials will be provided.

Colorful paper mobile hanging from a wooden stick features birds, butterflies, flowers, and bunnies, creating a cheerful, whimsical display.

Curious Creators

Tuesday, 31 March & Wednesday, 8 April | 12.30pm – 2.30pm 

A variety of drop-in activity stalls run by staff and volunteers from the Harris and the University of Lancashire. Get inspired by history, art, shapes and nature!

Calling all master builders! Join the fun in The Studio and let your imagination run wild brick by brick.

Harris Open Special Event: Spring Paper Flower Creative Workshop with Harris Open Artist Lisa

Wednesday, 1 April | 1pm and 2pm 

Join botanical artist and exhibiting Harris Open artist Lisa Howard and learn how to craft sculptural seasonal paper blooms. In this family workshop you will learn the paper cutting and shaping techniques that form the basis of paper flower making.

National Football Museum: Object Handling in the Discovery Zone

Thursday, 2 April and Friday, 10 April | 10am – 3pm 

Fancy getting up close to some important collection items from Preston’s rich history and the legacy of PNE? Join us at the Discovery Zone in Discover Preston and handle items which honor both the women’s and men’s teams.

Easter Bonnets

Thursday, 2 April | 11am & 1.30pm  

Design your own Easter Bonnet in preparation for Easter weekend! Create a traditional Easter hat and personalise it with special details to make it uniquely yours. All materials will be provided.

Takeaway Gallery

Monday, 6 April | 10.30 & 1.30pm 

Create your own exhibition in a ‘takeaway’ gallery! We’re recycling pizza boxes to craft mini galleries, and you get to be the curator. Join artist Sarah Hicks in this creative workshop to bring your masterpiece to life. (*Please note, there won’t be any pizzas available). 

Pizza box art gallery with miniature paintings and tiny people figures. Interior walls display famous art replicas, creating a whimsical, creative tone.

JuniorSTEM Lego and Coding Sessions

Tuesday, 7 April | 5-8yrs – 10.3am & 9 – 12yrs – 1pm 

Build fantastic Lego WeDo models then learn to program sensors, motors and lights to bring them to life.

Lancashire Mobile Music Vehicle

Tuesday, 7 April | The Flag Market | 10.30am – 4pm 

Hop aboard and discover different musical instruments with the Lancashire Mobile Music Vehicle on The Flag Market. The team will run lots of 15 minute taster sessions during the day.

Harris Open Special Event: Fantastical Clay Pets with Harris Open Artist Ingrid Moss

Thursday, 9 April | 1.30pm – 3.30pm 

Spend the afternoon with Harris Open artist Ingrid Moss making a fantastical pet out of air drying clay! Ingrid will bring her own art work to inspire everyone. 

Clay sculpture of a seated poodle holding a smaller figure. The textured fur and gentle pose convey warmth and playfulness against a plain backdrop.

Bird Feeders

Thursday, 9 April | 10am 

Make a treat for our feathered friends! Learn about their favourite foods and paint a ceramic bird feeder ready to take home and hang outside.

Egyptian Shabti Workshop

Friday, 10 April | 11am & 1pm 

A creative, hands on session based on Ancient Egypt with Molly Osborne. Imagine having a servant who would do all your boring jobs for you (no, not your mum and dad!), well, the Ancient Egyptians created shabtis to do just that.  Model your own shabti and write the spell that was supposed to bring them to life.
