Creative Connections with HMP Preston: Blackout Poetry and Comic Strip Making

HMP Preston’s Education Department provider, Novus is partnering with The Harris and the University of Lancashire to strengthen connections with our local community through creativity.

This February half-term, join in with some family-friendly drop-in creative activities in the Harris’ Studio space. Developed by Novus learners at HMP Preston and delivered by the Novus team and colleagues from the University of Lancashire.

Using the theme, “Community – What It Means to You” have a go at creating…

Blackout poetry –  a creative form of poetry taking an existing text and redacting certain words to create a new poem, often using a black marker to obscure the unwanted text. Add doodles, designs and colour if you want.

A comic strip – a sequence of illustrated panels that uses images and brief text to tell a short, engaging story in a creative or humorous way.

You will also have the chance to view a display of artwork responding to the same theme from HMP Preston and share your thoughts.

This event is drop-in only, free, open to all and all materials are provided.
